DESIGNER, ARTIST, MUSICIAN

Anisa Romero is an accomplished singer, songwriter, painter and designer. As a musician, Anisa was the frontwoman and songwriter for the Seattle-based psychedelic rock/trance group Sky Cries Mary from 1990-2008. Highlights from her years with the band include presenting the first-ever live rock concert via the Internet in 1994, opening for Neil Young for the 1997 HORDE Festival tour and performing on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and John Stewart’s The Daily Show. In search of new musical forms and expression, Anisa formed with Jeff Greinke the experimental ambient band Hana. Anisa continues to write and perform as a soloist, releasing a 4-song EP in 2021 with Mark Reveley of Dirt Wire as creative, engineer and producer. While touring and recording her first album with Sky Cries Mary, Anisa was also completing her B.F.A. in painting from the University of Washington. After nearly a decade in the music industry, she decided to resume her studies in the visual arts and, in 2001, relocated to New York City to obtain a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from New York University and an Associate Degree in Interior Architecture from the Parsons School of Design. Shortly after completing these studies, Sky Cries Mary regrouped and Anisa released two more albums with the band. During this time, she also began working as a designer and painter under her company, Anisa Romero Art & Design. Notable design projects include Bliss Spa International for the W Hotel and the lobby of the Lyric Theatre for the Broadway musical Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Anisa has been working as the Associate Director of Facilities and Space Planning at the Tisch School of the Arts since 2016. She continues to write, sing, paint and explore new creative outlets. Additional design pieces by Anisa can be found at anisaromero.com and at spoonflower.com. Anisa has made a home in New York with her daughter Petra, her partner Nick and his children Elias and Julia
